The Story Of The Nuclear Particles

page 04a

the carbon 14 has 2 neutrons more: 6 protons and 8 neutrons.

Carbon 14 is not solid at all, it is unstable, because it contains 2 neutrons too much. The danger now is that unstable atoms can easily change themselves. They can throw away parts of themselves and become more light-weighted. During this process those atoms send off heat and lots of dangerous rays.

this process is called "Radioactivity".

Some of these atoms disintegrate terribly fast, others wait a while longer. Carbon 14 takes a while longer until it starts that process. Although Carbon 14 nearly exists everywhere in very little amounts it is not so dangerous because it is “slow-motioned”.

One thing is certain: Our body reacts badly on radioactivity and cannot deal well with it. It reacts with horrible sickness and illnesses if all of a sudden too big an amount is taken up by our body.

Let us dive into the water, because there a special family of atoms exists…
