...faster, faster – as fast as we can..

You have learned quite a lot about radiation . But what about the rays I am telling you about all the time??
SThose rays really have ancient names – they are named after the first three letters of the Greek alphabet that existed already thousands of years ago.

The rays are called:
Alpha-Rays
Beta-Rays
Gamma-Rays

Imagine …
Those three types of rays are so powerful that they can go through a plate made of lead that is as thick as your finger!

That means that the shelter keeping rays away from you is the safer the thicker the plate is. Only a tiny amount of rays can pass and find your body.

This is actually the reason why atomic stations shelter the nuclear core with lead chambers which are surrounded by thick concrete walls. Inside an enormous amount of dangerous rays are moving around fast – faster – as fast as they can

The thick walls are supposed to avoid radioactive atoms and dangerous rays finding a way out into nature.

But these rays also have quite a positive side as well.
